Colorado Open Records Amendment

There is a bill going through the Colorado legislature, HB 12-1036, with regard to the Colorado Open Records Act. This bill has made it through the House of Representatives and is currently in the Senate. We feel this is a dangerous bill and could potentially restrict access to many types of law enforcement records, if passed in its current form.

On March 21, 2012, we testified against this bill in the Senate Judiciary committee and because of the testimony in opposition, this bill was laid over and no vote was taken on that date. However the vote will be coming soon and we would encourage anybody with an interest in keeping the open records accessible to contact their Senators immediately to voice their concern. We will keep you updated in subsequent posts.
